There are dozens of reasons why Browns coach Mike Pettine might be looking for work when the regular season ends. The Browns’ 3-10 record is chief among them.

On Wednesday, Pettine flubbed one of the easier parts of the job. When asked if Russell Wilson is an elite NFL quarterback, all he had to do was provide some bland, highly complimentary answer and stay far, far away from the whole ranking thing.

Instead, Pettine stepped right into the trap and said that Wilson is not an elite quarterback, but that “he’s certainly played himself into that next tier,” according to NFL.com.

The Browns visit a Seahawks team Sunday that has won four straight and Wilson has thrown 16 touchdown passes and no interceptions in those four games. He’s the only quarterback in NFL history to throw at least three touchdown passes in four straight games with no interceptions while completing at least 70 percent of his passes, according Cleveland.com.

Not exactly the kind of quarterback who needs bulletin-board material.

By going a little too in-depth with his answer, perhaps Pettine was preparing for a job as an analyst. He might have an opportunity to go that route as soon as next season.
