Toronto Blue Jays infielder Munenori Kawasaki gave an interview for the ages roughly two weeks ago after his team clinched its first division title since 1993 and earned a trip to the playoffs. Kawasaki told a reporter he was too drunk to answer questions in English, and preferred Japanese instead.

It’s hard to top that interview, but he gave his best effort while drenched in champagne after the Blue Jays advanced to the AL Championship Series with a 6-3 win in Game 5 on Wednesday night.

Kawasaki spoke with two Sportsnet Canada reporters on the field after the big win, and he was asked about how the team felt about advancing to the ALCS. He said they’re not scared and they still have important games to come.

Kawasaki then continued and had a great response about how the team will approach its next series. Slurred speech was definitely a factor in his delivery.

“We want to stay focused,” he said. “Don’t thinking. Just swing. Just ca…throw. Just catch. Don’t think, everybody…Just win!”

Just win, baby. That mantra has worked well for the Jays so far, so they should probably just stay the course and continue to be confident in their abilities.
