A promising debut for New England Patriots rookie receiver Malcolm Mitchell ended in some serious pain on Thursday night.

While attempting to brace his fall at the end of a second quarter catch, Mitchell had his left arm buckle under his own weight—resulting in a gruesome-looking injury to his elbow.

Look away if you’re squeamish:

The rookie left the field in serious pain. Trainers immediately escorted him back to the locker room.

A fourth-round pick of the Patriots, Mitchell was enjoying a productive first half against the New Orleans Saints—catching four passes on five targets for 55 yards.

Given the mechanism of the injury, it’s certainly possible Mitchell dislocated his elbow. He could miss the rest of the preseason—if not longer—if the diagnosis of his obvious injury is as bad as the video.
