The Redskins PR department has been working extra hard this week, and now they’re going to be working even harder.
It started with their attempt to downplay how the team’s coaching staff handled the Robert Griffin III situation, and now they have a whole different beast to deal with.
New general manager Scot McCloughan was brought in to instill a new culture on and off the field, and to finally bring stability to Washington—even though he himself had some issues in his personal life. The former Seahawks executive struggled with alcoholism and had some issues with his now ex-wife.
His new wife, Jessica, isn’t too happy with him right now, either, it seems. Check out the tweet she sent on Wednesday, which has since deleted, which insinuates that McCloughan has been having an affair with ESPN’s Dianna Marie Russini in exchange for scoops.
The Redskins initially told BSO that the Twitter account was fake, except it wasn’t. Jessica later apologized, in a statement.
“I deeply apologize for the disparaging remarks about an ESPN reporter on my personal Twitter account,” she said, via ESPN. “The comment was unfounded and inappropriate, and I have the utmost respect for both the reporter and ESPN.”
“I regret that my actions have brought undeserved negative attention to the Redskins organization and its leadership. My comments in no way reflect the opinions or attitudes of the organization and I regret that my behavior has in any way negatively impacted the team and its loyal fan base.”
It sure doesn’t seem like Jessica has “utmost respect” for Russini, but that’s beside the point.
