Tuesday, the Minnesota Twins inked Japanese Korean star Byung-Ho Park to a four-year, $12 million contract.
The next day, the Saint Paul Pioneer Press embarrassed themselves by mistakenly identifying the slugger as being Japanese.
Now, I know what you’re thinking…“what’s the big deal? Asia is Asia.”
Well, first off, that’s racist. Second, Seoul, South Korea (where Park has spent his entire pro career) is more than 700 miles from the Tokyo, the de facto capital of Japan. Not a huge distance, sure, but it’s roughly the same distance from Minneapolis (Park’s new home) and Dayton, Ohio…birthplace of former Twins utility man Jeff Reboulet.
Now that we’ve got that taken care of…we all need to go practice Park’s unofficial theme song.
