TCU shocked the world on Saturday night with a thrilling triple-overtime victory over Oregon in the Alamo Bowl 47-41. The Horned Frogs trailed 31-0 at the half, and with backup QB Bram Kohlhausen under center, things looked bleak.
But TCU never stopped fighting, and they caught a break when Oregon QB Vernon Adams exited the game in the second quarter with an injury. They had scored touchdowns on four of the seven drives with Adams under center.
Kohlhausen and the Horned Frogs offense caught fire after halftime and outscored their opponent 17-0 in the third quarter. A late field goal from 22 yards out tied the game at 31-31 and set up for a great overtime. It was at that point that TCU had all the momentum and it was their game to lose.
The two teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime, followed by field goals in the second. But it was the third overtime in which things got interesting, when Kohlhausen faked a toss and ran it in himself from eight yards out for the touchdown.
It was up to the Ducks to answer, but a fumble backed them up and presented them with a fourth-and-eight scenario. Here’s how the final play of the game unfolded.
The incomplete pass sealed the comeback win for the Horned Frogs, and it’s safe to say fans and players alike will be celebrating the epic victory. It matched the largest comeback in bowl history, and tied for the second-biggest comeback in a game between FBS teams.
