Well now that the dust has settled a bit on the benching of 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, the rumors are flying as to future with the team.
Most people now believe, that he’s done in San Francisco after this year, and if that holds true, there could, and should be, several teams on the lookout for Kaepernick.
We take a quick look at those three teams.
1- Philadelphia
The Sam Bradford experience hasn’t exactly panned out in Philly, and after this season, he’s a free agent. Kaepernick could step in right away under Chip Kelly’s offense, which is in need of a running QB, like the ones Chip had at Oregon.
Kap would fit in right away.
2- Dallas
The Cowboys were so worried about building their defense, they neglected one of the most underrated positions in all of football- the backup QB. Now they are seeing the importance of that, as the Cowboys are 0-5 without Tony Romo.
We’ve seen what Kaepernick has done with a bullish offensive line, and a strong supporting cast. In Dallas, he’d backup Romo, giving the Cowboys a sense of relief in knowing they are in capable hands should No. 9 suffer another injury that forces him to miss an extended period of time.
This move makes a lot of sense. Romo is 35, Kap is 28, and could be the heir apparent.
3- Denver
This to me, is the more outlandish and improbable move, but think about this for a second. Peyton Manning is nearing the end of his career, and Denver is setup to contend for the next couple of years. They don’t want to be in a situation where once Peyton leaves, they have to start from scratch, so enter Colin Kaepernick.
Again, you know what he’s done in the past, now add two 1,000 yard wide receivers, a solid offensive line, a stellar defense, and plug in Kaepernick, and Denver could be an immediate threat even after Peyton retires. Think of the Dallas Cowboys when Roger Staubach retired and Danny White took over.
Of course, this is all just talk and speculation, but it’s still intriguing to think of the possibilities for Kaepernick. If Mark Sanchez can get a second chance in Philadelphia, then so can Kaepernick, somewhere in the NFL, if not in San Francisco anymore.
