A Filipino NCAA tournament game between the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals and the Mapua Cardinals was called with 28.6 seconds remaining after a benches-clearing fist fight broke out on Monday.

It all began near midcourt, when Generals’ John Tayongtong bumped Cardinals’ CJ Isit while dribbling the ball. Leo Gabo then came to the defense of Isit and shoved Tayongtong—knocking him down. Tayongtong then got up, regained his balance and was greeted by an elbow from Isit. He dodged it with ease, and connected with a vicious right hook of his own. The Cardinals’ player then dropped to his knees, and it appeared as if he was unconscious for a brief moment. After that, things got out of control, and an all-out brawl erupted.

The fight set a league record for suspensions as well.

Tayongtong was given a five-game suspension for his role in the incident, and Gabo was hit with a four-game ban (according to Philstar.com).

All but two players in the game were ejected. And since only one player from each team remained after the fight, Emilio Aguinaldo College was given the victory, as they led at the time, 86-77.
