Cubs fan Ken Keefer has made a name for himself by catching home run balls in the Wrigley Field bleachers and throwing back decoys, but PBA Senior Tour (now the PBA50) champion Mike Pullin did a pretty good job of it himself in Monday’s Brewers-Cubs game.
When Mark Reynolds blasted a home run to left-center, the 65-year-old Pullin stood up in the last row of the bleachers and made a fantastic grab to prevent the ball from leaving the park.
And he threw the ball back onto the field—or at least it appeared as such.
Watch closely as he turns to his wife and places the home run ball in what looks to be a burlap bag of some sort. He then throws back a different ball.
Pullin spoke about the catch after it happened (via MLB.com).
“I saw the ball coming and it was a pretty easy catch for me. I’ve caught probably a million balls in my softball and baseball career,” he said.
Those 31 years of playing softball sure came in handy on Monday.
The replacement ball he threw back onto the field was reportedly a play toy for the family dog at home.
He can bowl, catch and throw. Pullin is clearly a jack of all trades, and he fooled us all on Monday night.
