Various MLB players are adept at evading would-be tags to get on base, but Nationals OF Jayson Werth took it to another level in Wednesday’s game against the Astros.
In the third inning, he attempted to steal second base but would have been out by a considerable margin. So, as he drew close to the bag, he pulled up and perfectly executed an awesome stop-slide to dodge a tag from Astros’ second baseman Jose Altuve.
Werth knew that opposing pitcher Scott Feldman was a viable candidate to run on. In fact, the team had already stolen four bases leading up to that point.
You won’t see too many plays like these, folks. Werth is a unique player.
