The last time we heard from Kevin Youkilis, injuries were forcing him to cut short his 2014 stint playing pro ball in Japan..
Now retired from baseball, the onetime “Greek God of Walks” serves as a special assistant to Chicago Cubs President Theo Epstein (who knew?) and, along with his brother Scott, is opening a high end brewpub.
Loma Brewing Company near Kevin’s home in Los Gatos, California is set to open later this summer and, according to Youk, will offer “high quality food and beer and cocktails”.

“The beer you’re drinking changes once you can afford better beer,” the three-time All-Star said. “I realized there was really good beer out there created by smaller-producing individuals. What I loved the most was I realized I didn’t have to drink ten beers to enjoy a night out. A couple well-made beers was more my style.”
While this might be Kevin’s first foray into the food industry, his brother Scott has been in the game for 25 years, owning two restaurants in San Francisco. So, yeah, it’s safe to say we all know who will be running the back of the house.
With Kevin taking the reigns in the kitchen…what is the younger Youkilis going to do? Whatever needs to be done apparently.
“You can’t act like you know it all,” Kevin said. “At the same time, if one of the bathrooms needs to be cleaned, I’ll do that. If we need a bartender, I’ll do that.”
