Why I Like Writing

@PezDOY, of trashboy and Day’s of Yorr fame, suggested this topic today on twitter, probably mostly as a joke, but I still found it intriguing. Writing is something I enjoy, although I don’t get to do it as often as I would like. People think being a stay at home parent is the shit, you can set your own schedule, do what you like, but it’s nothing like that. I’m busy pretty much all day, everyday, so I no longer have the time to just sit down and stare at a screen for a few hours pounding away at tiny keys that stream my consciousness to the masses.

A visual artist by trade, (though I use the term “trade” lightly), I find writing to be another form of visual creative expression. While very different from the visual art I normally produce, it’s still an enjoyable, tangible creative experience. Unlike drawings and paintings, which can usually only be experienced visually, words can be experienced in a variety of different ways. Visually, audibly, tactility, it’s pretty impressive and pretty cool. A visual expression of thoughts in a relatively logically manner, understandable by many, one of the best ways to communicate ideas to a large number of people. It can be flowery and emotional, or cold and scientific. Straight forward, or roundabout, writing is just plain enjoyable.
