The Hat Trick

The Juice: Vincent Trocheck is getting a lot of plaudits this week, having been named the NHL’s 2nd Star of the Week. It is well deserved, but not to be forgotten is Jussi Jokinen. He now has a 10 game point streak, a season high for the Panthers, and tied with a personal career high. He is currently three games shy of the team record of 13 games, set by Pavel Bure in the 1999-2000 season (March 10 – April 5, 2000).

Rau Gone: One player missing, much to the disappoint of the staff around here, is Kyle Rau. He has been sent back to Portland, with the return of Teddy Purcell looming tomorrow night in Montreal. Portland will need the help down the stretch in order to make the AHL Playoffs. While it is a bummer to see him sent down, and not get a point despite his effort, I will eagerly await his return next season.

Halaking a Starting Goalie: The biggest story with the New York Islanders coming into tonight is the absence of starting goaltender Jaroslav Halak. He suffered a lower body injury last week, and it appears that he will miss the remainder of the regular season, as he will need a minimum of 6 weeks to heal. Its never ideal to lose your #1 goalie, but the Isles are not necesarrily in trouble. Thomas Greiss, the backup, is a fine goaltender in his own right, and should be able to keep the Isles afloat.
