On December 1st, I decided to have a bit of fun and promised to pledge $5 to every point Aaron Ekblad scored that month to my local animal shelter.
Animals are something that are extremely near to my girlfriend and I’s heart (We have 3 cats that we’ve rescued) and I thought it would be a fun way to give back to the little furry friends we have in our community.

Ekblad ended up finishing the month with 9 points and I decided to throw in an additional $5 for a game-winning goal he scored. This brought the total to $50.

After I finished my donation, I figured “Why stop there?” and encouraged my twitter followers to chip in.
I was immediately floored with the results.
Donations keep coming in and I want to take “Panthers Help Pets” to the next level.
How you can help:
Here is the donation page to “Panthers Help Pets” at the Humane Society of Broward County.
You can join “Panthers Help Pets” in 3 different ways:
1. Make a flat donation to the HSBC. Every penny counts.
2. Make a pledge. You could say “I’d like to donate X amount of money” every time something happens. Whether it’s a player scoring, amount of saves made, or a team win, it’s up to you! Make it interesting! Set a period for your pledge and at the end of it, tally up your total amount and donate it to the HSBC.
3. Donate pet supplies! HSBC is always in need of supplies and even have a list of the things they need. If you’re an Amazon shopper, they even have a wishlist over there!
January Contest:
Anyone who donates at least $20 in the month of January will be entered to win an autographed puck from Aaron Ekblad!
Aaron signed this puck for me at Florida Panthers Fan Fest on September 21st. As you know, Ekblad was my first pledge for “Panthers Help Pets” when I started it and I think it would be an appropriate prize.
After donating, you must send the receipt to thesunshineskate@gmail.com
Once you send the receipt, you will be eligible to win the puck. I will put all entries in a hat and draw the winner on February 1st. This will be done live via video.
