MLB Team Man Games Lost September 1, 2013

We’ve updated for our analysis of man games lost for the MLB teams to the end of all games scheduled on August 31, 2013. Our analysis is different from the data directly reported by the teams themselves when they’re reporting on man games lost to injury. In our analysis the numbers aren’t as important as the ranking of the team with relation to the numbers.

We’re reporting on actual man games lost to anything, including players who are on the roster and don’t play for any reason (injured, illness, personal reasons, suspension, etc.). If the player is on the roster and doesn’t play in a game, we count that as one man game lost for the team. In the end, all teams have multiple players (i.e pitching roster, other extra roster players) who never make it into the game. The impact on our calculations is negligible as all teams have full pitching rosters and extra bodies that don’t play every game. Also, to remain objective we count a player’s missed games against his current team even if he missed a number of games while on a previous team.
