The Redskins and Trent Williams Working Towards New Deal

As the Washington Redskins get training camp underway, there are an array of storylines that have followed them in. Most notably, linebacker Ryan Kerrigan has agreed to a 5-year, $57.5 million extenstion that would make him the third highest-paid linebacker in the league behind Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers and Justin Houston of the Kansas City Chiefs, according to the Washington Post. With Kerrigan now locked up for the future, the Redskins can now look towards signing a long-term deal with another cornerstone in Trent Williams, as the left tackle enters the final year of his current contract.

Trent is certainly not to blame for the offensive line woes in the nation’s capital lately. Since he entered the league in 2010, Trent Williams has blossomed into one of the premiere players at arguably the most coveted position on the field; he has been one of the best at protecting the quarterback’s blindside from bloodthirsty pass rushers. Williams has stoned some of the best that the NFL has to offer in the passing game, and has become a dominant force of a run blocker as well. According to the Sun Times, Williams is ranked the 11th best left tackle in all of football,

If there are any knocks on him, it’s his lengthy injury history. Williams has played through an array of injuries throughout his 5-year career, and although he had a Pro Bowl season in 2014, it was no easy task playing with a torn ligament in his ankle.

Williams is now fresh off of ankle surgery this offseason, however, and as camp is now underway, he looks primed to have another fantastic season.
