Zack Greinke continues to dominate

Los Angeles starting pitcher Zack Greinke continued his scoreless innings streak to 43 2/3 on Sunday afternoon in Washington D.C.  Greinke pitched 8 innings and struck out 11 batters up and down the Nationals lineup.  This now completes 6 starts of dominance where he has allowed only 19 hits and has struck out 42 batters over the 6 game span and lowered his ERA to 1.30 which is unbelievable at this stage of the season.  He began this streak over a month ago on June 18 in Texas against the Rangers where he pitched 7 scoreless innings, and it was all fun in the sun from there, as it seemed that whatever and whoever Greinke faced in the batters box would eventually go down swinging or jammed by a tight fastball.

Dodgers backup catcher A.J. Ellis was called to enter the game in the sixth inning of Sunday’s game and he recalled walking up the mound and telling Greinke that he would just follow his lead.

Greinke said, ‘It’s pretty easy. All my stuff is pretty nasty right now.”

Greinke wasn’t exaggerating, he was on fire and he exited the game with a commanding lead and with his team on the verge of taking 2 out of 3 from the first place Nationals.

The Dodgers ace could beat the all time record for scoreless innings in his next two starts which would be against the Mets and the Angles if they keep the current rotation. What does this mean? That before Greinke thinks about the record he must face Mike Trout who homered against him in the All Star game on Tuesday a couple of times at Dodger stadium. The current record for scoreless innings is held by Orel Hershiser with 59 innings set in 1988.

LA sits at first place in the NL West with three and a half games in front of the current Champions the San Francisco Giants and will travel to Atlanta for a four game series with the Braves.
