March 3 Rundown

Welcome to the Rundown on the last Monday of the regular season. There aren't a ton of games on the docket tonight but there are a couple of big ones. Plus, conference tournament play gets under way with the first game of the Patriot League tournament, which Steve Fetch previewed earlier.

7 PM

Notre Dame at (14) North Carolina – ESPN

The Tar Heels haven't been quite impressive over the last couple games, which were on the road. Their last two home games were the win over Duke and demolition over Wake. UNC's final home game of the year is against Notre Dame. ND has lost 3 of 4 after dropping to Pitt over the weekend.

These teams locked up on February 8. The 73-62 win for UNC was their 5th in the current 11 game winning streak. James Michael McAdoo had 18 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists and a block in the win. Marcus Paige had 16 and 6 assists while JP Tokoto added 13, 7 and 4 steals. The Irish turned the ball over 17 times in the loss. Garrick Sherman had a team high 17 while Pat Connaughton had 7 points, 2 of 8 shooting, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

ON TV

7 PM

Xavier at Seton Hall – Fox Sports 1

The Musketeers look to follow the big win against Creighton with some revenge on Seton Hall. One of Xavier's worse losses of the year at 68-60 at home to the Pirates. Xavier was just 2 of 14 from 3 and 16 of 28 from the foul line while SH hit 8 of 22 from 3 and 18 of 22 from the stripe. Xavier has won 2 straight. Seton Hall has dropped 3 in a row by 1, 5 and 5.

Savannah State at NC Central – ESPNU

NC Central already won the MEAC but they can win it by at least a game with a win over Savannah State. These teams met a couple weeks ago with the Eagles winning by 14. Jeremy Ingram scored a career high 38 in that one.

9 PM

Kansas State at Oklahoma State – ESPN

The first time these teams hooked up was on January 4. A lot has changed since that Kansas State win. The Wildcats have mostly taken care of business at home while losing on the road. Oklahoma State has won every game since Marcus Smart returned. I expect them to win tonight. Kansas State would be in second place in the league with a win.

NC State at Pittsburgh – ESPNU

NC State has lost 4 of 5 after getting crushed by Miami over the weekend. The Panthers have eaten the underbelly of the league in close games to snap their two game losing streak. Like the OSU-KSU game, this was the first conference games for both teams. Pittsburgh won by 12 with a dominant second half. The last time Pittsburgh played a game with a margin of more than 7 was on January 27.

CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS

PATRIOT LEAGUE

7 PM

Navy at Colgate

Colgate finished 7th in the league while Navy finished last, which means this game is at Colgate. The split in the regular season with Colgate winning by 22 on January 18 and Navy winning by 10 on February 15.

7:30 PM

Lafayette at Loyola (MD)

Both teams finished 6-12 in the conference. Like the first game, these teams split the season series. Loyola won 77-63 at home back on January 13. In the February 22 rematch, Lafayette ran Loyola out of the gym 61-44.

Anything can happen in these two games. Probably blowouts.
