Quick Recap: Flyers at Devils

Period 1: I knew this game was going to be interesting from the start, given that both teams need to win to remain in the playoff hunt. The game started as any Flyers’ game would by taking a quick penalty… thanks to Nick Schultz interfering with Stephen Gionta. The Flyers did a pretty good job of killing that one and even picked up a power play after they were on the penalty kill, but didn’t do anything on it. Sadly, Radko Gudas was done for the night after being ejected as a result of a hit on Bobby Farnham. During the Devils 5 minute power play, the Devils managed to get one by Micahl Neuvirth, but Dave Hakstol used his coach’s challenge believing there was goaltender interference on the play.  Hakstol was right and the goal was reversed. It didn’t really matter though as Tyler Kennedy (Ex Pittsburgh Penguin) put one in shortly after the coaching challenge. As soon as you would think this game is going to be a disaster, the Flyers’ savior, Shayne Gostisbehere, continued his point streak(13 games) with a clutch goal assisted by Brayden Schenn and Claude Giroux. The shots were even at 8-8 with the score tied at 1-1 after the first.

Period 2) This was starting to become a rough game for the Devils, they couldn’t convert on multiple chances on the Power play and then Simmonds put on a rough hit on Zajac, who went off limping. The Devils picked up another penalty after a sketchy cross checking call on Ryan White made it 5 on 3 for a 1:02. The Flyers would kill that penalty and go on the power play themselves. Brayden Schenn picked up a power play goal from a amazing pass from Wayne Simmonds making it 2-1! This was one of the most intense Flyers’ game this season but the period would end 2-1 Flyers
Period 3) The game started going back and forth with tons of chances but with 12 minutes left the Devils picked up a key penalty sending Nick Schultz to the box again. Early into the Power play, Neuvirth made a few brilliant saves to kill off the penalty, but shortly after the power play Jordan TooToo finally put one past Neuvirth. With a little over 8 minutes left in the period, the Flyers picked up a huge power play which they converted on thanks to Wayne Simmonds assisted by Schenn and Giroux. The Flyers take the lead 3-2! A crazy turn of events took place after a defensive melt down by the Devils. Nick Cousins scored his second goal as a Flyer making it 4-2 with under 7 minutes to play assisted by Rj Umberger and Nick Cousins. As if the arena wasn’t empty enough, it just got even more empty as Voracek put one in to make it 5-2 assisted by Rj Umberger, who had 2 assists this game. Shortly after that, the Devils snuck one in making 5-3. The Devils would pull the goalie with 1:52 seconds left and Ryan White put it in the empty net making 6-3 assisted by Bellemare. The Flyers win 6-3.
