NFL Network Forgot To Fact Check This One

Fact checkers and editors beware, this is cringe worthy.

It’s also not the most compelling news of the day but it seems as if NFL network does not remember who played in the Super Bowl XLI.

The tweet, which has since been deleted, is congratulating Tony Dungy on defeating the Miami Dolphins to become the first African-American coach ever win to Super Bowl. That is only partly true.

Dungy, indeed, was the first African-American coach to win a Super Bowl. However, he did not defeat Miami nor would it be possible for him to defeat Miami in the Super Bowl. You see, both the Colts, Dungy’s team, and the Miami Dolphins are in the AFC. This means that these two teams would never meet in a Super Bowl which must be played between an AFC team and an NFC team. It was in fact the Chicago Bears who were defeated by Dungy’s Colts. Realistically, history would be made regardless of which team one. The Chicago Bears were led by Lovie Smith, also an African-American coach.

Nonetheless, it was a great game between two fierce competitors that was the apex of a great run of Indianapolis Colt’s football. Miami, on the other hand, hasn’t seen the Super Bowl since 1984.

Poor Dolphins can’t catch a break.
