NFL Week 3: Buy Or Leave Dry

It’s time for the week three edition of “Buy or Leave Dry.” As we do every week, we take a look at some players to use and avoid when constructing your daily fantasy (DFS) teams for DraftKings and FanDuel. With the exception of Eli Manning, we did pretty well last week buying Willie Snead and leaving Todd Gurley. So let’s keep the momentum going with our look into the third week of the 2016 DFS NFL season.

QUARTERBACK

BUY: Marcus Mariota Titans VS Raiders

Salary DraftKings $5,900 FanDuel $7,700.

Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans return home to face the Oakland Raiders and their pedestrian defense. Oakland is allowing 404 yards per game in the air through two weeks. There has been no sophomore slump for the Titans signal caller. Mariota has an early 93.8 quarterback to start the season. This is a perfect early season matchup for Mariota to pad his stats.

LEAVE DRY: Russell Wilson Seahawks Vs 49ers.

Salary DraftKings $7,100 FanDuel $8,700.

It has been an early season to forget offensively for Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. Despite squeaking out a 12-10 victory weak one against the Miami Dolphins, there has been zero to talk about for the Seahawks offense. Wilson, who has been bothered by a sore ankle may be without some of his weapons on Sunday. Wide receivers Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett are both questionable with injuries. More often than not this would be a spot to play Wilson, but until we see some improvement from this offense, you are better off staying away.

RUNNING BACK

BUY: Melvin Gordon Chargers @ Colts

Salary DraftKings $5,800 FanDuel $7,100

It’s been a fantastic start to the 2016 NFL season for Melvin Gordon. The second year running back has shown the explosiveness out of the backfield that we saw in his days at Wisconsin. With the San Diego Chargers being ravaged by injuries, Gordon’s roll in the offense is sure to increase. This week Gordon has a great matchup on the road against the 32nd rank defense against DFS running backs.

LEAVE DRY: Spencer Ware Chiefs Vs Jets

Salary DraftKings $5,700 FanDuel $6,300

Spencer Ware was fantasy gold week one for the Kansas City Chiefs. Things slowed down last week against the Houston Texans and may slow down even more this week against the New York Jets. The Jets, eight best against the run have one of the best defensive fronts in football and will prove to be a very tough match up for Ware. Also there is a chance Jamaal Charles will be active for the game and that will cut into Ware’s touches.

WIDE RECEIVER

BUY: Jarvis Landry Dolphins VS Browns

Salary DraftKings $6,600 FanDuel $7,000

You probably wouldn’t know it, but after two weeks Jarvis Landry leads the league in receptions with 17. Landry has quickly evolved as the number one threat in the Miami Dolphins offense. Miami is 0-2 to start the season and in desperate need of win. This week they should get it against the Cleveland Browns. Looks for Landry and quarterback Ryan Tannehill to have a big game and light up a Browns defense that allowed 302 yards and two touchdowns to Joe Flacco last week. Landry is the top wide receiver target for DFS in week three.

LEAVE DRY: Larry Fitzgerald Cardinals @ Bills

Salary DraftKings $6,900 FanDuel $7,600

This is not an indictment on Larry Fitzgerald. The future hall of famer is off to a very fast start in 2016. However, when playing DFS you look for certain matchups that stick out and sometimes you need to go with your gut. Arizona, after two straight home games to start the year travel across the country to face a desperate Buffalo Bills team. Buffalo can’t afford to lose three straight in a division that features the New England Patriots. Expect this game to be played very tightly on defense, leaving points to come at a premium.
