Miami and new head coach, Adam Gase, were just dealt quite the blow to their offensive plans for 2016. After losing Lamar Miller to free agency, the Dolphins went to Plan B by offering C.J. Anderson a 4yr/$18 million deal. Anderson signed the offer sheet, putting the Denver Broncos on the clock to match the Dolphins’ offer. Today, we learned of the Broncos’ decision and the outcome is not good for Miami.

C.J. Anderson is heading back to Denver and Miami will now have to start working on a Plan C. So what is Miami to do?

No, not Bill Murray, however, this running back did share carries with a Murray last season.

Plan C: The Miami Dolphins should trade for Ryan Mathews

The Dolphins need a running back and Mathews would be a solid fit. Mathews is 28 years old and relatively affordable for Miami(4MM cap hit in 2016, 5MM in 2017). Although an injury risk, Mathews would be a more than serviceable option for Miami and would alleviate some of the pressure opposing defenses consistently put on Dolphins’ quarterback, Ryan Tannehill.

Philadelphia would be more than open to a deal as the team has been rumored to be looking for a trade partner for the running back.

The deal makes sense for both teams. The Dolphins need a featured back and Philadelphia is looking to continue their moving on process from Chip Kelly. However, one can only speculate the asking price the Eagles’ have for Ryan Mathews and it is uncertain if either side has any real interest.
