Wentz Has The Birds Flying High

After the first two weeks of the season, the Philadelphia Eagles are still undefeated. Thanks in large part to 2nd overall draft pick, Carson Wentz. The North Dakota State standout has been nothing short of sensational. He started his pro campaign with a performance for the ages becoming the first rookie QB in the last decade to throw for over 270 yards and 2 scores in their debut.

The first year signal caller followed his week 1 performance with a solid outing against the Chicago Bears. In the first two weeks, Wentz is averaging over 240 yards game with 3 scores, all while completing more than 60% of his passes. Most importantly, he has played error free football, something the city has been desperate to see for sometime now. The turnover bug has plagued the Eagles franchise for years but with number 11 at the helm those days seem to be in the rear view mirror.

Another bright spot for Wentz has been his toughness. He was able to hang in the pocket and take contact while throwing strikes to open receivers. He took his fare share of cringe inducing hits, but like a Timex watch the rookie “took a licking and kept on ticking”.
His ability to return to his feet will no doubt earn the respect of the Philadelphia faithful and help him stay entrenched as the top man behind center for the foreseeable future.

This Sunday will be the rookie QB’s biggest test so far, he will be assigned with the task of keeping pace with one of the leagues most potent offenses in the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’ll have to match “Big Ben” throw for throw if the home team is going to have any shot. But there is no doubt the kid from Fargo will be up for the challenge. The future is bright in the city of brotherly love and I, for one, can’t wait to see what’s next.
