Baseball Explodes On Catcher’s Helmet

You’ve heard of the hidden ball trick but how about the exploding ball trick?

Such an event occurred in a College World Series game between TCU and Texas A&M last night. TCU catcher, Evan Skoug fouled off a 1-2 pitch into the mask of Aggie catcher, Michael Barash. Foul tips are rather common in baseball but not like this.

To the disbelief of everyone, the ball would explode on impact with Barash’s helmet sending a smear of white across the normally maroon face mask. Barash would be ok and remain in the game. Texas A&M would go on to win 7-1.
