Pau Gasol ‘a bit pissed’ about NBA 2K17 rating

San Antonio Spurs forward Pau Gasol isn’t too happy about his rating in NBA 2K17.

But only because his brother, Marc, has a higher rating, of course.

Pau appeared at the game’s premier in Madrid Wednesday and wasn’t shy about his feelings on the whole ordeal. Raúl Barrigón of HoopsHype.com captured the funny moment:

Funny or not, it’s an interesting conversation to have. Pau spent last season with the bumbling Chicago Bulls and wasn’t too pleased with how the team flopped. He averaged 16.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. Marc led the Memphis Grizzlies to the playoffs in the tough Western Conference while averaging 16.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.

Is the rating situation between the Gasol brothers fair? Hard to say, but Ronnie Singh, digital marking director for 2K Sports, spoke with Barrigon about the rating process recently:

The ratings have always been a very contentious subject because at the end of the day it’s a number, and everybody expects themselves to be the best of the best. So everybody wants to be a 99, and there’s only one 99 in the game, ’95-96 Michael Jordan. We use a ton of formulas, a ton of algorithms, a ton of discussion. So this year LeBron James is a 96 and then everyone kind of falls in line right under him.

From the sounds of it, Pau will just have to let this one go.

Then again, Pau will have plenty of chances to one-up his brother and perhaps even jump ahead in the ratings department now that both are back in the same conference gunning for a title.
