Chris Bosh fails physical, not cleared for training camp with Heat

Chris Bosh failed a physical during his comeback bid and won’t partake in training camp with the Miami Heat.

Bosh, 32, has battled blood-clotting issues over the past few seasons but aimed to play with the Heat this year after being cleared by doctors.

According to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press, a physical gave Bosh another red light:

Bosh hasn’t been shy about wanting to suit up this year and has been quite unhappy with the Heat not clearing him over the summer. People within the organization recently feared he might never be able to play again.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Hearld provided context on this latest development:

A complication has arisen in medical tests involving Heat forward Chris Bosh, derailing his attempted comeback, according to a source.

The complication involved evidence of some continued clotting and is believed to be related to one of two previous blood clot episodes…

…Though the complication is not considered life-threatening if treated, it requires medication and playing with it is considered unrealistic.

Due to prior complications, Bosh only played in 44 games in 2014-15 and 53 one year ago. He has been his usual effective self on the court, but hasn’t been able to stay on it.

The problem for the Heat from a team standpoint is simple — Bosh has missed key games late in seasons in each of the past two years and has a massive contract. If he can’t get clearance by the time the regular season rolls around, the two sides might encounter problems.

The good news? This doesn’t sound like a life-threatening setback. That’s most important here, though the Heat have made it clear there remains no timetable for Bosh’s return to the court.
