Le’Veon Bell won’t talk contract until he’s sure his knee is good

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell, whose contract expires after the 2016 season, wants to make sure his knee is healed before discussing a new deal.

“I just want to make sure my knee’s good,” Bell told reporters Thursday, via ESPN.com. “Make sure everything’s straight before all that comes about.”

Bell, 24, tore the medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals last season. He finished the 2015 season with 556 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns through six games.

That Bell wants to make sure his knee is fully healed is good for the Steelers, who are about to heavily invest in one of the best running backs in the NFL. Bell had a breakout season in 2014, rushing for 1,361 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Steelers figure to have one of the top offenses in the league next season with Bell in the backfield and All-Pro receiver Antonio Brown catching passes from Ben Roethlisberger. But for that to happen, Bell needs to stay healthy.
