Randy Johnson to have street named after him in front of Chase Field

The Arizona Diamondbacks and City of Phoenix announced Monday that the street in front of Chase Field will be named “Randy Johnson Way” after Hall of Fame pitcher and five-time Cy Young award winner Randy Johnson.

“It is only fitting that the street outside of our home be named after our first Hall of Famer,” said D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall, according to abc15.com. “Randy created so many great memories for our fans and now whenever they drive by or walk up to Chase Field, they’ll be reminded of the rich history that surrounds them.”

The official ceremony will be held May 12, the team announced.

Johnson was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year in his first year of eligibility. He’s one of three players to have his number retired by the D-backs.  Johnson’s 4,875 career strikeouts rank second all-time behind only Nolan Ryan.
