Report: Mike Conley expected to depart Grizzlies in free agency

In February, Mike Conley said “everything will be on the table” in free agency and that he hadn’t committed to anything yet, but it looks like he has. Ken Berger of CBS Sports hinted at Conley’s future with the Memphis Grizzlies while discussing Dave Joerger’s as coach.

Dave Joerger is in a tough spot in Memphis with an aging roster that broke down this season and is on its way to being further depleted with the expected free-agent departure of point guard Mike Conley. There’s the potential for a breakup there, sources say.

Conley is the Grizzlies’ all-time leader in games (637), assists (3,578) and steals (963), and he ranks second in scoring (8,635) behind only Pau Gasol (8,966). The 28-year-old point guard was diagnosed with left Achilles tendonitis and missed the last 20 games of the 2015-16 season.

Conley is considered the top free agent point guard on the market, so it’s possible he could be looking at several maximum contract offers. In 56 games with the Grizzlies, he averaged 15.3 points and 6.1 assists.
