Report: Panthers sign Ryan Kalil to a two-year contract extension

The Carolina Panthers have signed five-time Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil to a two-year contract extension through the 2018 season, the team announced Monday.

Kalil, 31, had the third-highest run-blocking grade of any center last season, according to Pro Football Focus. He was the anchor of a Carolina offensive line that ranked second in PFF’s offensive line rankings for 2015. Only the Dallas Cowboys were ranked higher.

Kalil became a full-time starter in 2008 and made the first of three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances in 2009. He made his fifth Pro Bowl in seven years this past season and was named All-Pro for the second time in his career.

A team captain each of the past three seasons, Kalil has started all but three games during his career. The Panthers hope he can continue to be that leader on the offensive line, and help them get back to the Super Bowl next season.
