A-Rod goes inside Green Monster in Fenway Park finale

The Red Sox had no ceremony honoring Alex Rodriguez in his final game at Fenway Park, so A-Rod gave himself a little farewell tour by stepping inside the Green Monster’s hand-operated scoreboard and grabbing a No. 13 to match his uniform number.

While Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter were lavished with gifts in their Fenway finales, Rodriguez couldn’t even keep that lousy piece of metal.

It shouldn’t be surprising. Both sides of this bitter baseball rivalry are basically telling Rodriguez not to let the door hit him on the way out. Yankees manager Joe Girardi wouldn’t even let him play third base in his final game against the Red Sox.

Rodriguez went 0-for-4 Thursday night, dropping his batting average to .199, but he did have an RBI in the Yankees’ 4-2 win over the Red Sox.

The Yankees are scheduled to host the Rays tonight in Rodriguez’s last game as a Yankee. If he can somehow get that average above .200, he would at least depart with a shred of dignity.
