Andre Johnson: Tajae Sharpe will be ‘great player’

Titans rookie wide receiver Tajae Sharpe might still be a secret to casual football fans, but that’s about to change if Andre Johnson is right about him.

“I think he’s going to be a great player,” Johnson, a seven-time Pro Bowl receiver, told The Tennessean.

Sharpe, who the Titans drafted in the fifth round from Massachusetts, led the team with seven catches for 76 yards in their Week 1 loss to Minnesota. The 35-year-old Johnson was the team’s second-most productive wide receiver with three catches for 30 yards.

According to the newspaper, Sharpe’s seven catches were the second most in Week 1 by a rookie chosen in the fourth round or later since 1970.

Lions cornerback Darius Slay could test Sharpe Sunday in Detroit. According to Ollie Connolly of All 22, Slay is tied for the fifth most passes defended as a boundary cornerback since 2014 and in 56 snaps in the slot last season he allowed a completion percentage in the bottom five.

If Sharpe puts up big numbers again, the secret will be out.
