Andy Reid: Texan’s ‘flop’ wiped out Chiefs TD

The Chiefs would have had a better chance to come back and beat the Texans Sunday if it weren’t for a bad call, Chiefs coach Andy Reid told The Kansas City Star.

Tyreek Hill returned a kickoff 105 yards for a touchdown with less than three minutes left, but it was negated by a holding penalty that appeared to be on Steven Nelson, although no uniform number was given. Charles James was the player Nelson attempted to block.

“If it was basketball it probably would have been ruled as a flop,” Reid said.

So instead of trailing 19-16 with just under three minutes left, the Chiefs settled for a field goal
with 49 seconds left and couldn’t recover the onside kick. They lost 19-12 to fall to 1-1.

“(James) knew he was outflanked, so he literally flopped,” Reid said. “Nelson put his hands
out, put him down and the kid just jumped into his body.”

If Reid wants to coach basketball, a sport in which players can be fined for flopping, he’d have
to wear a suit on the sideline. Who doesn’t want to see that?
