Buccaneers release Austin Seferian-Jenkins after DUI arrest

Austin Seferian-Jenkins’ DUI arrest on Friday was the last straw for the Buccaneers. The troubled tight end has been released.

Seferian-Jenkins, who was taken in the second round of the 2014 draft, caught just 21 passes in each of his first two seasons and three this season. He was kicked out of a spring practice and has clashed with coaches numerous times.

Seferian-Jenkins tweeted his farewell.

He was arrested early Friday morning and released from jail later in the morning, according to Pro Football Talk. He also pleaded guilty to a DUI charge when he played at Washington.

The Buccaneers (1-1) play their home opener Sunday against the Rams. They’ve already won at Atlanta and have a realistic shot to be the second-best team in the NFC South. Now they have one less distraction in their effort to get to the playoffs for the first time since 2007.
