Captain Munnerlyn says Panthers ‘feel like their division is not that good’

The Carolina Panthers sit in a 1-3 hole and might go without quarterback Cam Newton in Week 5, yet former player Captain Munnerlyn says the team isn’t too worried about the situation.

Other than Munnerlyn saying his former team doesn’t play well from behind (no kidding), the cornerback dropped an interesting note about how the Panthers view the rest of the NFC South.

The nugget, via Alex Marvez of Sporting News:

“I’ve still got friends on the team and I still talk to those guys almost every week. They definitely are a confident group of guys. I talked to [Panthers linebacker] Thomas Davis and he’s like, ‘It’s okay, man. We’re going to be alright.’

“They feel like their division is not that good. They feel like they still can win their division. They won it before at 7-8-1 (in 2014) so they feel like they have just got to punch their ticket.”

Shots fired.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints also boast 1-3 records, but the former can be tricky and the latter played the Panthers close over two games last year.

The Atlanta Falcons are another story entirely. Matt Ryan just threw for more than 500 yards on the Carolina defense while Julio Jones went for 300 on his own in a 48-33 whipping.

Making the playoffs because the rest of the division is “not that good” isn’t as easy as it seems, even if the feeling is true. Carolina has a tough schedule, and other than five remaining NFC South games, the team has to deal with Arizona, Kansas City, Oakland, Seattle and Washington.

And the NFC South? It just got some incredible bulletin-board material.
