Celtics’ Isaiah Thomas: ‘The NBA knows we’re going to be pretty good’

The Boston Celtics are going to have a great season next year—just ask star guard Isaiah Thomas.

Thomas is quite confident in his team, which makes sense. The front office went out and landed big fish Al Horford in free agency and did well with one of three first-round picks in this year’s draft, grabbing Jaylen Brown out of California.

Moves such as this, plus the Celtics making the postseason last year, have Thomas’ confidence high, as captured by ESPN’s Chris Forsberg:

The NBA knows we’re going to be pretty good. Teams know. Everywhere I go, everybody’s excited about the Boston Celtics and we’re just going to try to take steps forward and continue to work. And I know Brad [Stevens] and the coaching staff are doing everything they can to put us in position to be successful. So we’ve got to bring it come October.

Thomas went on to talk about the positives surrounding the team, even going so far as pointing out Gerald Green will be back with the team.

Call it infectious. The Celtics look poised for another postseason run, if not a whole lot more. The team’s biggest weakness last year was underneath the basket, so adding one of the league’s top 10 centers goes a long way in smoothing out the issue. Otherwise, the young core of the roster hasn’t changed much.

Knowing team president Danny Ainge, the Celtics won’t stop coming up in rumors concerning trades. That’s a given for a team with so many assets, but as Thomas pointed out, the Celtics will be pretty good with what they have right now.

It’s up to the current roster to prove Thomas right and put the rest of the league on notice.
