Steve Nash announced his retirement over the weekend, and former teammate Dirk Nowitzki recently weighed in about it.
He and Nash played for the Mavericks and spent six seasons together. The two were a formidable duo and had great chemistry together. Had the Mavericks not let Nash test the free-agent market and depart for Phoenix in 2004—which Mark Cuban said was his “biggest regret” as an owner—it’s scary to think how dominant the team could have been.
Nowitzki and the Mavericks did go on to win a championship in 2011 without Nash. And even though the two no longer play together, Nowitzki delivered a great quote to sum up Nash’s career.
Dirk on Nash: He overcame a lot in his career, being injured, and being slow, and white and unathletic

The Mavericks’ big man showed off his great sense of humor and acknowledged Nash’s career accolades in just one sentence.
