Dolphins have lost last 4 road games to Patriots by combined 95 points

The Miami Dolphins haven’t beaten the Patriots in New England since 2008, and recent showdowns between the AFC East rivals at Gillette Stadium have hardly been competitive.

In fact, according to Ira Kaufman of Sports Talk Florida, the Dolphins have been outscored by a 132-37 margin over the last four trips to New England, including a 36-7 beatdown last year and a 41-13 drubbing in 2014.

That’s a difference of 95 points, or almost 24 points a game over the last four meetings in New England.

The Dolphins will travel to Gillette Stadium to take on the Patriots in Week 2.

Head coach Adam Gase understands the challenge ahead of his team.

“When you go up to New England, you bring your ‘A’ game,” Gase said. “I don’t think there’s a lot of losses in New England the last 15 or 16 years, or whatever it’s been. You just have to go in there and the one way you can put yourself in a good position is you have to execute what your game plan is.”

Ryan Tannehill has started at quarterback for all four of the games. He’s thrown seven interceptions—with only three touchdowns—over his first four road contests in New England, and his highest passer rating over the four games came in 2014, when he posted a 73.4 mark during the 41-13 defeat.

It’s very hard to beat the Patriots at home without superb quarterback play.

Luckily for Miami, it’s less likely they’ll face superb quarterback play this time around. Tom Brady will miss the second game of his four-game suspension, leaving Jimmy Garoppolo to face the Dolphins defense on Sunday.

If there was ever a time for Tannehill and the Dolphins to snap an ugly streak in New England, it’s probably now.
