The Chicago Bears will almost certainly be without quarterback Jay Cutler during the team’s Week 4 matchup with the Detroit Lions.
According to Jeff Dickerson of ESPN, the Bears listed Cutler as doubtful for Sunday with a thumb injury. He also didn’t practice on Thursday or Friday, which gives him very little chance of being active when the Bears take on the Lions.
If Cutler can’t go, veteran Brian Hoyer will start at quarterback for the second straight week.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Cutler will have a better chance at playing in Week 5.
#Bears declared QB Jay Cutler (thumb) doubtful Sun, so Brian Hoyer starts again. The timeframe was 2-3 wks, so he’s got a chance next week.

Cutler originally hurt his thumb in the season opener. He re-aggravated the injury during Chicago’s Week 2 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Bears are one of four teams at 0-3, with all three losses by nine points or more. Cutler struggled to start his 2016 season, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions with three fumbles. While Hoyer has been decent filling in, the Bears probably won’t get their season back on track without Cutler back under center.
