Jets offense produces rare production in win over Bills

The New York Jets gained almost 500 total yards and scored 37 points during a win over the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night.

The depth of the offensive production was rare in Jets franchise history.

Running back Matt Forte rushed 30 times for 100 yards and three touchdowns, while receivers Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and Quincy Enunwa combined for 18 catches, 319 yards and a touchdown.

According to ESPN Stats and Information, Thursday night was just the fourth time in team history that the Jets had a 100-yard rusher and two 100-yard receivers. It was also just the second time the New York offense has ever had three players catch six passes for at least 90 yards in a single game.

And don’t forget about Ryan Fitzpatrick, who threw for 374 yards and one touchdown. He became just the 14th quarterback since 2007 to average at least 11 yards per attempt with 24 or more completions in a single game. His impressive yards-per-attempt average was a product of him completing eight passes over 20 yards. According to ESPN, Fitzpatrick also completed 10 passes traveling 15 or more yards in the air, which was the third most by a quarterback over the last 10 years.

“It was just giving guys a chance to make plays,” Fitzpatrick told Jarrett Bell of USA Today.

The Jets gained 493 yards, the most by the team since 2014 and the third most over the last 15 years. The offense also converted 8-of-13 third downs, made seven trips to the red zone on 11 possessions and held the football for almost 40 minutes.

The performance on offense was rare in franchise history, and vital to the Jets getting back in the win column after a disappointing Week 1 loss.
