Jim Harbaugh is Keeping Michigan’s Starting Quarterback a Secret

The gamesmanship continues as the college football season draws ever closer.  Michigan head coach, Jim Harbaugh, is refusing to shed light on which of his two promising quarterbacks will get the start when the Wolverines take the field against Utah on Thursday Night.

Senior Jake Rudock and junior Shane Morris have been competing with each other for the starting quarterback job in a secretive environment during Michigan’s preseason preparations.  Coach Harbaugh has apparently come to a decision regarding which of the two quarterbacks will be leading the Wolverines’ huddle to start the season, but is remaining tight-lipped about the outcome.

“We know who’s going to start,” said Harbaugh in the weekly Big Ten coaches’ teleconference.  “We know who’s going in second or who’s going to go in next. I want them both to prepare like they’re going to be the starter. I don’t know how to make it any more clear than that.”

While remaining silent on this issue certainly gives Michigan a strategic advantage as they head towards their game against the Utes, Harbaugh is stressing that his secrecy is being maintained in the best interest of the two young players.  “I want both of them to go into this game with a mindset that they’re one play away or they’re starting,” he added. “It’s the mindset I always want our quarterback and our backup quarterback to go into the game with.”

Jim Harbaugh has never been known as one to stay silent, particularly with his sideline histrionics during games.  Rudock and Morris, however, will simply need to roll with the punches and hope that their unconventional coach calls their name on Thursday night.
