Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman didn’t hold back in an interview with ESPN’s Kevin Van Valkenburg. The 28-year-old All-Pro stirred things up with his comments on multiple NFL talking points.
After getting into a near brawl with New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. last season, Norman says Beckham has lost the respect of his peers and will be wearing a target this year:
“Everybody saw what he was,” he says. “People from around the league were coming up to me afterward and saying, ‘He does that crap all the time.’ He lost so much respect from people for that little tantrum. I’ve already got a couple people telling me, ‘OK, I’ve got a hit out on him.’ It’s going to be rough for him this year. And he brought it on himself.
“He’s skilled and talented,” Norman says. “I won’t take that away from him. But he’s never been through any adversity in his life. It’s like, when are you ever going to grow up?”
On the topic of Sam Bradford, Norman ripped the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback for his holdout earlier this offseason:
“Have you ever once been one of the top 20 quarterbacks in the league?” said Norman of Bradford. “Not that I remember — and you want more money? I can’t wait to play him twice a year.”
Then, Norman turned his focus on the commissioner of the NFL, Roger Goodell, who he called “straight horrible.”
“I get that he makes the owners money, but literally anyone could do that,” Norman says. “A dog could. He’s a dog in a suit.” He has similar low regard for players’ union rep DeMaurice Smith. He calls the league “a dictatorship, and DeMaurice is in cahoots with those guys.”
Seems like Norman will be the one wearing a target this year. He also took some shots at his former team, the Carolina Panthers, and the New York Giants, who interviewed him before he was drafted.
