Ken Griffey Jr. will soon get his own statue

Ken Griffey Jr., in his playing days, was the best athlete in Seattle sports history.
As such, he’s going to be receiving a huge honor, and soon.

The Mariners retired his jersey on Saturday night, and #24 drew quite the crowd during a pretty cool ceremony. The great Willie Mays even recorded a video message for him which was displayed on the videoboard.

Here’s what it all looked like.

The team also announced that Griffey would be getting a statute outside of Safeco Field next year.

It’s been a pretty good year for Griffey, who was also elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame back in January.
