Prior to Tuesday’s Royals-Yankees contest, Lorenzo Cain had just one home run in 2016.
That total would soon get a major boost, as the Kansas City outfielder belted three round-trippers against the “Bronx Bombers.”
Homer No. 1 came in the top of the third, as he took New York starter Masahiro Tanaka deep to the opposite field. Cain would follow that up just two innings later — a three-run shot that put K.C. up 6-5.
Then, with his team down a run in the eighth, Lorenzo belted another to solo home run to right.

Cain’s quest to match the single-game record was turned aside in the ninth, as Aroldis Chapman got him to pop out. The three homers would wind up going for naught. The Yankees came away with a 10-7 win — as newcomer Chapman earned his first save in pinstripes.
