Martellus Bennett helped the Patriots win at Arizona Sunday night without Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski.
Bennett’s help didn’t come in the form of doing what Gronkowski does, even if a lot of fantasy football players were counting on that.
“I’m not a fantasy football player. I’m a blue-collar tight end,” Bennett said, according to Fox Sports, after catching just three passes for 14 yards on five targets.
The Patriots acquired Bennett in a trade during the offseason, and used him as more of a blocker Sunday. Bennett seemed like a nice pick for daily fantasy players in particular hoping for a big return on a cheap salary, but it’s hard to predict what the Patriots will do with their players from week to week as they tailor their game plan to their opponent.
“One week I may catch 10 balls. One week I may block 75 runs. It doesn’t really matter,” Bennett said.
The Patriots might frustrate fantasy owners, but attitudes like Bennett’s have helped the Patriots win four Super Bowls.
