Mets get screwed out of a run by Wrigley Field ivy (video)

The MLB league office needs to look into amending the ground rules at Wrigley Field, because the Mets got robbed of a run in Game 3 of the NLCS on Tuesday night.

It didn’t really matter, though, when it was all said and done, as the Mets defeated the Cubs 5-2.

But it should’ve been 6-2, and what happened in the sixth inning of the game could’ve potentially changed the outcome. With Michael Conforto on first base and two outs, Wilmer Flores slapped a pitch to right field that Jorge Soler misplayed and rolled all the way into the ivy at the wall. Clearly, Conforto was going to score, but the Wrigley Field ground rules dictated that it’s a ground-rule double and he had to hold at third base.

And here’s why:

The Cubs dodged a bullet there, as pitcher Jacob deGrom came to bat with runners on second and third, and he struck out. However, it’s the Mets who take a 3-0 lead into tomorrow’s game, with the potential to punch their ticket to the World Series.
