Michael Sam to appear on ‘Dancing with the Stars’

March figures to be quite a busy month for Michael Sam.

The former Cowboys and Rams linebacker was the first openly gay NFL player to be drafted by an NFL team. But he still hasn’t played in a regular season game.

He’s hoping to rectify that by participating in the veteran’s combine, which will take place on March 22. Sam will attempt to prove to NFL teams that his skill set as a pass rusher makes him worthy of a roster spot.

And it’s not the only big event he’ll be competing in next month. Sam will be joining ABC’s Dancing with the Stars when the show’s 20th season kicks off, according to a report from TMZ.

This decision is a curious one. Sam previously faced scrutiny regarding how focused he was on football. And if he’s attempting to show NFL teams what he’s made of roughly four weeks down the road, you’d think he’d want to clear his schedule and devote all his time and energy to working out and showing teams what he can bring to the table.
