If you watched the Giants-Jaguars preseason matchup last Saturday, you probably noticed that Odell Beckham Jr. got mauled nearly every play.
As I sat and watched the tape yesterday, I saw Davon House either grab a hold of his jersey or shoulder pads, as well as employ his own version of “bump and run,” which was basically him shoving and bumping ODB all the way down the field. The Jaguars also rolled the coverage toward ODB, with safety Sergio Brown flying in a few times and delivering late hits.
Beckham was targeted five times in the game, but caught no balls.
It’s clear NFL teams are aware of Beckham’s injury history, and they’re going to bang him around a bit.
Victor Cruz noticed it, too, and he wasn’t happy about it. He made sure to let the media know on Tuesday (via NJ.com).
“I was a little unhappy last week,” Cruz said. “I felt some of those [defensive backs] were gunning for him. It was sad to see that go down because I couldn’t help him. I couldn’t go out there on the field and run routes with him. I couldn’t take some of the pressure off him and things like that.”
Beckham may be still recovering from his hamstring injury, but that’s not going to stop NFL teams from going after him. All Cruz is doing here is telling other NFL teams that ODB still may be ailing a bit, which will, of course, cause them to bang him around even more.
