Ravens put Elvis Dumervil on the shelf for now

Elvis Dumervil’s return has coincided with the Ravens’ two-game losing streak after a 3-0 start.

Not that Dumervil is to blame, but according to Pro Football Talk he’s been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Giants and will be out indefinitely as he tries to regain his form.

Dumervil, 32, had offseason foot surgery and sat out the first three games of the season. He played 20 snaps in the Ravens’ Week 4 loss to the Raiders and 25 snaps last Sunday against the Redskins. He didn’t record a sack or tackle. He recorded two quarterback hurries against the Raiders but told the Ravens’ website that he felt “rusty.”

A five-time Pro Bowler, Dumervil had six sacks last season, but he’s had none since Nov. 30 when he had 1.5 against the Browns.

The Ravens are fifth with 190.8 passing yards allowed, but their 10 sacks tie them for 17th in the league. They’re hoping to have Dumervil back this season, but he needs more time to regain his strength.
