Ray Allen wants to return and push away Stephen Curry

Ray Allen doesn’t like the idea Stephen Curry continues to gun for his standing as one of the best three-point shooters in NBA history.

Allen, 41, hasn’t suited up for an NBA team since his stint with the Miami Heat a couple years back. In the meantime, he’s watched from the sidelines as Curry has helped revolutionize small-ball lineups in today’s NBA, his elite shooting from deep the culprit.

According to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe, (via CSN New England), Allen wants to return to keep Curry away from his status:

Ray wants to play again. I’m sure about that. I don’t think he particularly enjoys watching Stephen Curry rain 3s and challenge his record and be called the best shooter in the world. I think that bothers him. I know Ray wants to extend his all-time 3-point record.

Allen sits on 2,973 converted shots from deep, but the much younger Curry already had 1,593. Given the pace and trajectory, Curry shouldn’t have a problem passing Allen over time.

The question is where Allen would land. He’s apparently been getting recruited by those around the New York Knicks, per Bleacher Report:

Another obvious destination would be a reunion with the Boston Celtics. At this stage of his career, though, it’s easy to presume Allen will want to compete for titles as well as extending his lead on Curry. If that’s the case, Boston makes more sense than most places, provided somewhere such as Cleveland doesn’t come calling.

Regardless of how it ends up, Allen isn’t done acting like Brett Favre just yet. The speculation around his future won’t stop, especially once the season gets going and Curry starts knocking down shots like he always does.
